Terms of service
The agreement between you and ThreadNotes. Plain English, no surprises.
Who you are agreeing with
ThreadNotes is a personal project, built and run by one person in the United Kingdom. It is not a registered company. In these terms, “we” and “us” mean the individual who operates ThreadNotes, and “you” means you.
If you need that person's name for a legal or data protection request, email the address below and we will provide it.
Contact: support@threadnotes.co.uk.
Accepting these terms
By using this website or the ThreadNotes app, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the service.
You must be at least 13 years old to use ThreadNotes.
ThreadNotes is beta software
This matters more than anything else on this page, so it is near the top.
- ThreadNotes is free while it is in beta, and is provided “as is”.
- Features may change, break, or be removed without notice.
- There is no uptime guarantee, no support guarantee, and no backup guarantee. Data loss is possible.
- Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.
Accounts are not currently open. Nothing on this website is an offer to provide a paid service, and no payment is taken.
If we introduce paid plans
ThreadNotes is free today. If we ever introduce paid plans, we will say so clearly in advance and will not start charging an existing account without asking you first. These terms would be updated at that point.
Your account
You are responsible for keeping your password safe and for what happens under your account. Use a strong, unique password. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has gained access.
Do not share an account between people — workspaces are designed so each person has their own.
Your content stays yours
You keep all rights to the notes and other content you create. We claim no ownership of it.
You give us only the permission we need in order to run the service: to store your content, back it up, transmit it between your devices, and display it to the people you have chosen to share it with. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account.
You are responsible for what you put into ThreadNotes, including having the right to store and share it.
Shared workspaces
ThreadNotes is built for groups. Be aware that:
- Anything you write in a workspace is visible to other members, subject to the per-note permission you set.
- Workspace owners can manage members and generate invite links.
- Content you contribute to a shared workspace may remain there if you leave, as it forms part of other members' records.
Acceptable use
Do not use ThreadNotes to:
- break the law, or store material that is unlawful;
- infringe someone else's rights;
- harass, threaten or abuse other users;
- distribute malware, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the service, other accounts, or the systems behind them;
- place unreasonable load on the service, including automated scraping or bulk account creation.
If you find a security flaw, please report it to support@threadnotes.co.uk rather than exploiting it. We will not pursue anyone who reports an issue in good faith and gives us a reasonable chance to fix it.
Ending your use
You can stop using ThreadNotes and delete your account at any time.
We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, or where we are required to by law. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why and give you a chance to retrieve your content first.
We may also discontinue ThreadNotes entirely. If that happens we will give as much notice as we reasonably can, so you can export your notes.
Liability
ThreadNotes is provided free of charge and without warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for lost data, lost profits, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the service.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, you keep all your statutory rights.
Privacy
Our privacy policy explains what data we collect, why, where it is stored and what rights you have over it. Please read it — it forms part of your agreement with us.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes fall to the courts of England and Wales. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed. If a change is significant, and we hold an email address for you, we will tell you directly. Continuing to use ThreadNotes after a change means you accept the updated terms.
